This open call to participate/exchange is directed towards any artists or friends, makers or listeners for whom the themes of Water Bodies resonates.

Curating and organising this open call, Jennifer Moore invites you to compose pieces of sonic material which will be woven together into one extended collective sound piece. Your sonic response could take the format of spoken word, poetry reading, field recordings, instrumental, improvisational (vocal and other), musical composition, musical rework or remix, archival recordings (musical/interviews etc) +etc

As well as visiting the exhibition, feel free to delve into some of the resources throughout this website. Perhaps a piece of shared material may resonate with you and help give life to your sonic response.

For anyone who doesn’t usually work with the material of sound or is seeking any technical advice or assistance in developing a response, Jenn will be available via email to provide support or correspondence. You can contact her at dream2cyclist@gmail.com

Submitted sound works will be woven together to form one extended audio play, which will be showcased in the exhibition space on Saturday, September 5th.

This Open Call is open to members of Catalyst Arts. Sound and Water Bodies?

The sound work for Water Bodies comprises of two main spatialized audio tracks, playing across the exhibition space.

One of these audio works comprises of manipulated vocal recordings, positioned above the water pools in the exhibition space. These vocal recordings comprise of organised notes on conversations held between the artists over the a series of online calls.

Process?

The other audio work was composed using various instruments, relating to both body and water. Recordings of wine glasses, each holding different volumes of water, are woven together along with the sounds of pouring water between the glasses. Blowing across bottles of water creates the sound of distant fog horns in the second half of the composition. The piece ends with a series of vocal harmonies, which emerge and disappear in waves, anchored by the comforting whirring of a faraway de-humidifier.

Harmony and unison collapsing and ascending.. Moments of comfort and discomfort.. Of seeking and finding.
